Crafting the ideal School of Art charter cover wasn't a straight line. I delved into both classic styles aligning with the university's image and bolder, unconventional options designed to pique interest and spark curiosity. This exploration broadened the range of possible outcomes, ultimately leading to the darker, more unconventional cover. This cover embodies the School of Art's spirit of pushing boundaries and inspiring creativity through unconventional means.
I narrowed it down to four possible cover designs. Two of which I think are what I would expect to see withing the context of the schooland two designs that would be more unusal and therefore more interesting to students.
I began ideating the layout of the spreads with pen and paper, using rough sketches to capture the essence of information and its flow across the pages. These sketches were then translated into digital formats, transformed and tweaked into polished layouts. Throughout this process, I carefully considered balance, hierarchy, and design principles, all while adhering to the overall concept of each spread having a distinct style.
These are the final spreads! Each spread showcases a distinct style, aiming to capture students' attention as they flip through it. Yet, a subtle unity is woven throughout, thanks to recurring elements like the understated grid system in the background. This creates a cohesive experience, guiding the reader's eye seamlessly while clearly displaying all the information. However,it also maintains the reader's attention..
I made a paper prototype of what the charter would look like to more efectively pitch my idea to
A Poster version of the charter was also requested. The printed prototype helped to understand the scale of the poster more and make adjustments acordingly
Collaborating on this project was a rewarding experience. While I didn't win the final selection, I gained valuable insights from my peers and learned the importance of design thinking for specific audiences. This experience has further solidified my passion for user-centered design with engaging communication, and I'm eager to explore its potential in designing for diverse audiences in future projects.
